Merchants of hate and fear

Cardross remains the saddest episode in recent local history but even that has not enabled it to avoid the worst efforts of those who have a career in whipping up hysteria as their own defence against their increasing irrelevance as a last failing tactic in vain pursuit of shared delusions about the growth imperative.

Where are the voices congratulating a jury for having got it about right in spite of the media's worst efforts to prevent a fair trial?

Where are the voices reminding us that the once noble concept of justice does not have to retain its current corruption as a synonym for revenge, even more so when any revenge would start to ring hollow as soon as the spotlight is turned off?

You do not ever really get over the loss through some random event of someone in whom you have invested much hope, and you should not be expected to just get over it. But at most vengeance brings momentary relief to some who aren't coping anyway. The gap between coping and getting over should not be blurred.

And producing one more client to help sustain the growth of prisons for profit while the real crime rate continues its long term decline should never be cause for celebration.
