Google moves beyond evil
Posted by Tony on 2nd July 2010 at 11:18:52
"Evil" is not a word I'm fond of using, but Google in 2010 have become so much the antithesis of their own "don't be evil" that it has become impossible to avoid throwing it back in their face.

Their work is uniformly afflicted by the kind of shoddiness that is only possible when you don't give a damn.

Today's variant is their "upgrade" of Google News where they invite you to change your custom settings then lose your changes.

This is just so typical of empires in decline. They thrash around in directions they don't have reason to care about, just to avoid admitting their own redundancy.

We are all lucky that they were too preoccupied with their own navel that they didn't really notice that for the few minutes they owned the index they were in the most powerful position any corporation has ever been in.
