In Lancefield for the final afternoon of their Megafauna Festival meant a Saturday morning with too much food choice at their monthly Farmers' Market along two blocks of the luxuriant plantation down the middle of High Street. The road separating those two blocks was closed by a couple of dray loads of hay and a red van recruiting people for their local version of the November climate march. Eventually I realised that the van was also producing music I had originally imagined must have been emanating from the church opposite. Then it dawned that the tune was similarly familiar from a Cumbo Cabaret, albeit with words unrelated. So Kerry Wales's 'The Secret Place' at 26:45 of the 2013 Cabaret video can at least be said to be to the tune of Hallelujah. I'm still happy to claim independent discovery even though Vivien Philpotts runs both the Cumbo Cabaret and Kyneton, each in an efficient, somewhat behind-the-scenes way. Guess my ears will never again hear the word Hallelujah without my mind hearing Cumbo River, but that can only be a good thing. |
